The Writing Center Inc. Career Center operates as an academic and professional services division designed to connect students, tutors, and faculty with lawful, ethical, and meaningful career opportunities. By accessing or registering, all participants agree to comply with this policy.
1) Scope of Career Center Services
- Résumés, CVs, Portfolios: Customized documents reflecting academic and professional achievements.
- Career Advising & Selection: Guidance on industries, roles, and pathways aligned with skills and ambitions.
- Job Search Assistance: Support identifying lawful, legitimate opportunities.
- Interview Preparation & Development: Coaching to strengthen communication and employability skills.
- Freelance Tutor Registration: Independent contractors may provide academic writing support under the Writing Center’s network.
2) Prohibited Activities
- Completing or submitting exams, quizzes, or timed assessments on behalf of students.
- Misrepresentation of credentials, history, or legal eligibility to work.
- Submitting fraudulent résumés, employment records, or references.
- Unauthorized access to portals or restricted employer systems.
- Activities conflicting with academic integrity policies.
- Placements violating immigration, labor, or employment law.
Violations result in suspension of services, forfeiture of fees, and potential legal reporting.
3) Legal & Regulatory Compliance
- Private Training Act: While not classified as a regulated training institution, practices align with principles of transparency and consumer protection.
- Employment & Labor Standards: All services comply with BC and U.S. labor laws.
- Privacy: Data is handled under PIPA, PIPEDA, and comparable U.S. privacy frameworks.
- Immigration: The Writing Center does not provide work authorization. Responsibility rests solely with the client or tutor.
4) Contractor (Tutor) Registration
- Engagements are independent contractor roles, not employment.
- Contractors handle their own tax, insurance, and reporting obligations.
- Contractors must preserve academic integrity and avoid ghostwriting.
- Violations must be reported to compliance@writing-center.us within 24 hours.
- Contracts may be terminated immediately for non-compliance.
5) Career Placement Disclaimer
- The Writing Center provides support, not guaranteed employment.
- Opportunities depend on employer requirements and candidate eligibility.
- The Writing Center acts as a facilitator, not a direct employer.
- Clients must comply with employer conditions including checks and authorizations.
6) Enforcement & Remedies
- Services may be suspended or terminated if violations are suspected.
- Fees are non-refundable where violations occur.
- Disputes go to compliance@writing-center.us and are governed by BC law.
- We will cooperate with institutions, regulators, and authorities when required.
7) Binding Acknowledgment
Clients
- I am responsible for my own submissions and compliance with policies.
- I will not request prohibited services, including exams or academic dishonesty.
- I understand placement support depends on lawful work eligibility.
Tutors & Faculty Consultants
- I act as an independent contractor, not as an employee.
- I will provide lawful academic support only, preserving authorship.
- I will comply with all legal obligations under Canadian and U.S. law.
